WMD kill dozens of Iran and Sryia’s troops while loading Scuds - proof?
“Dozens died in Syria-Iran missile test” headlines Jerusalem Post, citing a story in Janes Defense Weekly as proof. Janes report an accident while a “joint Iran/Syria” team were loading sarin gas onto Scud missiles in some sort of test in July. I’ve not seen the Janes story, but it sounds dubious to me: remember the normally-respected Janes analysts swallowed pre-Iraq lies, and were firm believers well after the Iraq invasion that the infamous “bioweapons trailers” were high-tech mobile WMD factories - a laughable analysis of open trucks with canvas sides.
Jerusalem Post Sept 18 2007 story excerpt:
‘Dozens died in Syria-Iran missile test’
Proof of cooperation between Iran and Syria in the proliferation and development of weapons of mass destruction was brought to light Monday in a Jane’s Defence Weekly report that dozens of Iranian engineers and 15 Syrian officers were killed in a July 23 accident in Syria.According to the report, cited by Channel 10, the joint Syrian-Iranian team was attempting to mount a chemical warhead on a Scud missile when the explosion occurred, spreading lethal chemical agents, including sarin nerve gas.
