IAEA August 07 report and workplan resolving outstanding questions by November
El Baradei’s report to the IAEA Board of 30 August 2007 is here. It contains the workplan he has negotiated with Iran to explain the remaining “outstanding questions” about its past nuclear activities. He was criticised by the US and EU for doing this deal, and walked out of the EU ambassadors critical speech. It is worth noting two major long-term “outstanding questions” were announced as now resolved: the IAEA is satisfied that the small amounts of plutonium and highly enriched uranium found in Iran are not evidence of a weapons program. And it reports its inspections, including no-notice inspections, have found no evidence of diversion of declared nuclear materials
The remaining issues to be resolved “with a target date of November” include
- documentation on acquisition of P1 and P2 centrifuges in 1987, and of magnets and other items aquired in the 1990s
- clarification about a few particles of hi enriched uranium found at a technical university in Tehran.
- clarification of a document outlining machining techniques to make uranium metal hemispheres
- Irans Polonium 210 experiments
- explanations on Irans uranium mining and processing activities at Gehine
